Meant to portray and complement the complex transformations we undergo with our identity and highlight the important factor of understanding the “veil” we hide ourselves behind, obstructing the objectively “authentic” human form.

Metal and leather have a lot in common, and undergo visible changes over time, becoming a symbol of transformation and uncertainty. Carrying out a sales project, I discovered Rawhide and recognised the dialogue it plays when placed in the context of solid, permanent steel.

The narrative of hide and steel is a story they tell complementing each other. One is organic, taken off yet still alive, moving, transforming, and transparent in places. It’s activated by the audience, distorts reality. The stretched piece of skin might create a sense of enclosure or privacy, but its earthly nature keeps it open to interpretation—a space that’s neither fully hidden nor exposed. Created to become a border, division yet ties the room together (we experience this dualism in society as well as in a mental state). The distortion effect through the lens of rawhide makes it trickier to understand the emotion shown behind it, simultaneously triggering imagination and allowing suggestions to amplify the expression.
